Prayer Space
Children and young people are innately curious about life. Growing up raises lots of questions, some to do with their experience, both the good and the bad, and some to do with their sense of wonder at the universe we live in and whether there’s more to life than meets the eye. Many have an interest in the non-material aspects of life, the spirit or soul, and want to explore how these ideas and experiences help them to develop their own sense of identity, self-worth, personal insight, meaning and purpose.
Prayer Spaces in Schools enable children and young people, of all faiths and none, to explore these life questions, spirituality and faith in a safe, creative and interactive way. Taking a broadly Christian perspective as a starting point, prayer spaces give children and young people an opportunity to develop skills of personal reflection and to explore prayer in an open, inclusive and safe environment. The approach does not proselytise and purposely allows pupils to make their own meaning and to draw their own conclusions.
Our Prayer Space
At Fringford we have created a Prayer Space for our children, staff and parents. It is a quiet, reflective space that allows for calm contemplation. The Prayer Space will aim to help children consider their own uniqueness, their hopes and their fears, their own emotions and those of others in the school. It will also help to generate thoughts about wider issues affecting their community and the wider world – natural disaster, refugees and poverty, as well as generate awe and wonder of the natural world and universe!
Compassion Child
At Fringford we sponsor Emilie from Togo through Compassion UK – a Christian charity whose aim is to help empower children left vulnerable by poverty. Independent research shows that children sponsored through Compassion are more likely to be employed and be a community leader when they grow up.
At Fringford we believe that not only is it important to help those who are less fortunate than ourselves but to ensure that we become knowledgeable about other ethnic groups, cultures and faiths. To develop this aspect of global learning our children are fully engaged in our work through Compassion UK.
